If your roommate is nice, you shouldn't have any trouble getting along with them. Since you're going to be in the dorms, meeting people should be really easy- everyone else is in the same situation as you, everyone is trying to make new friends too. Chances are you will find people who share the same interests as you within your hall! Join some student groups or intramural sports teams that interest you, and just remember to be yourself! Lots of shy people really blossom when they get to college, I'm sure you will have a great time. Good luck!

Just be yourself. although that sounds easy it is also very hard. I am also very shy and college age. Sit towards the front of the room so you can speak in class easily, which will make you more outgoing in the classroom, learn better ,and feel better about yourself. Also, complementing people is a good way to make conversation, just make sure you mean it and don't over do it. Another way is to pick out people who you feel you have something in common with, or better yet, in class you will at some point be put into groups to work on things and you will get to know people there as well...sooner or later you will talk about things and if someone asks u a question give an honest reply not a short 'yes' or 'no'. Keep in mind not every other person knows everyone else either so you are not the only one! Good Luck!!!

You mentioned that you were just starting a University right so of course they will be other people starting who also feel the same way. All you need to do is be yourself and just say whats on your mind. You will surely be surprised at how many people probably feel the same way but were waiting for someone like you to say something.

Join a club, go to social mixers to know other people in school, form a study group with other classmates.
You could join the university gym to meet people.
I know it hard thing to meet people when your shy and introverted but once you go out, you should meet new people.

my advice to you is to drink lots of beer.
unless you don't drink at all.
there are many ways to start conversations at school. ask a classmate for help with homework or what they thought about today's lecture. you could talk about the football team, ask where the bookstore, library, or any other building is.
I'd still go with the beer, it's a great way to loosen up

Try joining a group on campus that focuses on something you are intrested in, or try going to freshman mixers, if your school has them. That's where I meet most of my college friends.
