the most merchandise in a single year had been known to change from time to time. The two biggest in year to year are:
Dallas Cowboys and the Oakland Raiders
Other teams have come close depending on their current popularity and current Super Bowl win.
The answer for the overall most merchandise sold is:

And the numbers are not even close.
This is according to the wholesalers of NFL merchandise.

Last year the Pittsburgh Steelers shold the most amount of merchandise. Historically though the Green Bay Packers always rank near the top. The other biggest sellers are surprisingly Washington and Houston.

I have answered this type of question before and I will stick to what I said before.
The Oakland Raiders consistently lead the NFL in total merchandise sales. The main thing behind this is the fact that there are a lot of gang related people in the Southern California area (and other areas I am sure) who buy the Raiders gear simply for the colors. These types of people actually know nothing about the team.
If you ask them to name one player on the team, 90% of the time there response will be "Jerry Rice".
