N.A.S.A. (and not "nasa") has a relatively large budget for its work. The fall outs of their research are enormous, and influence our every-day lives. It also help us understand our Universe a little bit better. So I would give them even a bit more budget.
So would I to the schools, so kids would be able to spell and write correct sentences.
But I would take the money out of the army (who only make wars and inflict pains and sufferings), out of the politician's expenses (who live a lavish life at OUR expense and produce nothing but windbags)...

We should give money to Nasa to inspire the smartest people in our society to rise up. For some reason, really smart people are all explorers from birth and they need something great to chew on while they develop. They ask a lot of questions, they explore and lo and behold they discover something on behalf of us that changes the lives of ordinary people everywhere.

It is for these "really smart babies" that are born on earth every year that we should leave open the final and most exciting frontier. When we give these "really smart babies" the avenue of Spaceflight they will give back to humanity the knowledge of the whole universe in due course.

Imagine what the knowledge of the whole universe could be worth to us- the "normal tax paying public"? Perhaps there is knowledge out there that shows our civilization how to not pay taxes! Would that not be worth all the tax dollars we paid to find this out via space exploration and nasa?

So basically, Space Travel should be subsidized by government to give our brightest minds the best stimulation that money can afford for the sake of our entire civilization. I really believe that this is the only true and real reason for space exploration. Everything else( technology transfer, defence, communication etc) are stupid alibis used by lobbyists to raise money for space.

i think its because the scientists have tried many things to improve life on earth but there is no change and so they have just turned their back to earth and they wanna go to other planets.otherwise there is so much to do here right on earth that generations of n.a.s.a. scientists wont be able to achieve it.
as for those who keep blabbering about achievements of nasa i think it would be enough to say that they could have achieved all those things without building spaceships and sending satellites in orbit around mars but as i said its just a lollipop which a few scientists want to pacify their high intellectual brains.otherwise tell me what data did the mars rovers collect to help people on earth.

Well.... Because we seem to be getting a lot more bang for the buck from all the technological fall-out from NASA.

It's certainly better than pissing it away on public schools that turn out cretins who are incapable of correct punctuation, spelling, or forming a sentence in which the subject and predicate agree in number.
