If anybody is in the supermarket business, how often do the checkout conveyor belts break down? Also, how often is there any maintenance done on them other than breakdowns?

they don't break down all that often. I worked at a grocery for three years and only saw one break down. if they are kept clean, and the interior works dusted periodically, they will work quite a while.
I do not recall ever seeing any mechanical maintenance done on them, but i think that the store used to lubricate some moving parts occasionally.

I was a cashier for over a year in a supermarket and there was maybe one or two that broke down during that time. They get them fixed fast though. And I don't know how often they done maintenance on them. I never saw anyone doing anything to them except the cashiers keeping them clean when we didn't have anything else to do.
