Trained on apple pie and turkey, the Apollo astronauts were able to withstand for almost 4 hours travelling through the Van Allen belts of radiation without any lead coated suits or lead coated spacecraft - a testament to their toughness and to the survivability of corporate mythmakers.

No. The Van Allen belts are there, but the speed of the spacecraft and trajectory help to limit the amount of radiation, or so I'm told.

I don't think of people who doubt the space program or the moon landings as kooks, though. There's too much sleight of hand in our culture to trust any government or corporation 'just because.'

There was a big worry during one of the Apollo missions that due to a solar flare they would be subject to excessive radiation. Luckily it was not as intense as lt might have been and they survived. Did you notice that all the guys who went already had children?
Think of the problems of travelling to Mars 6 months there, 6 back plus a stay on the surface.
They simply could not avoid high radiation levels by choosing when they went.
Lead lined spaceships might be a bit heavy but that's what would be needed.

The first astronauts were pilots, trained to fly fast jet planes. Later astronauts included scientists and doctors, as well as a geologist on APOLLO17. By the 1980s astronauts had proved people could stay in space for up to a year without harming their bodies or going mad. However since Neil Armstrong, Edwin " Buzz " Aldrin and Michael Collins went to the moon, no-one has since been back up there.

Until I can get an undisputable photo of that flag (this photo would not be credible from Nasa), the puddle jumper, and any other debris they might have left up there, I'm with you. BTW, my sons and I joke about it as being 'the Van Halen belt.'
