calibration is done for any measuring device such as vernier caliper, micrometer, temperature indicator etc against a master standards. the reading on a components with UUC (unit under calibration) and master are compared and UUC is declared usable on non-usuable.
validation is done for tools, dies, jigs or fixtures. validation is the inspection of item produced by a tool. on the basis of inspection report the tool is declared ok or reject.

Calibration is checking an instrument for validation purposes...i.e. making sure it's to spec and properly calculating it's measurements.

Validation is double checking something.
