Jags are very expensive to repair, but that fact has absolutely nothing to do with why they are cheap as used cars. Just look at Mercedes, BMW, Lexus. Those are all also very expensive to fix vehicles and they maintain their values exceptionally well. So there goes that theory.
The truth of the matter is, a vehicle's popularity in the market has the biggest influence on resale value when they are used. For example, Honda and Toyota have reputations for building very reliable vehicles, which is why they are, in some cases, twice the price used of comparable American models. Not ALL Hondas and Toyotas are good cars, so it's possible to buy a lemon of a Honda or Toyota and pay top dollar for it. On the flip side, not ALL American cars are junk. It is possible to buy a reliable American vehicle for very little money, comparably speaking. Older Volvos, which are exceptionally well built and dependable vehicles, are surprinsingly affordable because they are no longer seen as desirable to mainstream shoppers and tend to appeal only to die-hard Volvo fans, eccentrics, and those looking for a good car for little money that know the Volvo secret.
So in essence, Jags don't hold their resale value worth a hoot because they are not terribly popular vehicles, due to the fact that they have a reputation for being terribly unreliable. They are near the bottom rung of the used luxury car ladder.

They arn't that popular. Ford is having a hard time selling them. I doubt they are really unreliable. Ford gutted them and put ford parts in them. One was a tauras in a jag skin. Now that they don't make the tauras anymore it is based on another ford car.

No. Depending on the model, it is because the parts and labor are so darn high. Jags are not easy to work on.
