I mean this seriously; I've seen quite a few people poke fun at the folks that don't spell well, or ask questions that we think should be obvious. The fact that they are asking means that they don't know the answer, and they KNOW that they don't know. That is the true start of intelligence (or maybe wisdom); to know that you don't know. We really shouldn't be making fun of people that are less knowledgable than we are.

What are we here for, if not to help others?

Well, sassafras, it may be obvious to YOU, but it's just not obvious to the asker, or why would they be asking?

Hey, valleyviolet, like the answer! Are you a teacher, or have you ever thought about it? You can contact me through my profile if you like; no hard feelings if you don't...

Crystal, I really appreciate your post. There are many people who have disabilities involving reading and written expression. It is a shame that these snobbish buffoons feel they are here to be the "grammar and syntax police." Intelligence is being able to understand and relate to a variety of people; not criticizing people who have difficulty with spelling or writing. High five to you. For those of you obsessed with this...there are excellent medications.

I am intelligent but not a snob.

I also correct people with spelling errors as well as the obvious questions because that is just how I am - detail oriented and doing this is not making fun of the asker, just stating the obvious.

I don't think of myself as being very smart..I just like sharing what little I know with other people..As for those so called questions you refer ed too, when answering those I think back to time I first started using the Internet and how little I knew!

Crystal, how right you are! Intelligence is only a tool. How one uses intelligence defines his character - that is, shows what he's really worth. Humility is just as important.
