We lose many jobs to Asian and South and Central American countries where the cost of labor is lower. One good example is Walmart. Vendors are encouraged to come in the lowest possible price for their products. Since their bottom line is at stake, many of these vendors seek cheap labor from other countries as a way to still profit from their sales.

Outsourcing to other countries is another way that American companies decrease the work force in America. Jobs in the tech and electronics fields, medical billing and others are farmed out to Asian countries because American business can cut costs. Many business save on manufacturing costs by going to Mexico where the production costs are a fraction of what they are in America.

Charlie Rose interviewed a senator from North Dakota (I can't remember his name) who wrote a book about this topic. One example he wrote about was the bike company, Huffy. He explained how Huffy bikes originated in Ohio, but now they are produced in China. So all those workers in the American plant lost their jobs.

Does this affect our economy? Yes, it does. However, American business is resilient and resourceful so I am not convinced that we will be superseded by Asia.
