For example, we just celebrated Labor Day a day taken out to thank all of Americas hard workers and I HAD TO WORK! The Fourth of July is to celebrate our nations independence from England and today most people could care less and would rather get drunk and party. Memorial Day commemorates our veterans but with the exception of a few it's just another reason to party. St. Patricks day was intened to be a day when we can thank God for the blessed example that St. Patrick himself gave as a model for Christains everywhere. It's now an all out beer-festival! Need I mention Christmas and Easter?

What has America turned into when every national holiday we celebrate means nothing to them except another day to indulge themselves and never truly taking the time out to remember what it is we are really celebrating.

Anything taken to extreme looses its allure. My father's working day was 6 days a week; and a working day means 8.00 am to 9.00 pm. I started my working career in one of those multi national American firms that have a 5 day week. What did I do for the Saturday - played all night poker with the boys. Mondays were generally stuffed so I need more holidays!

I think your question is best answered by the words of that modern day John the Baptist, Bill Hicks. The late Mr Hicks spake the following:

"The reason the world's so f**ed up right now is that we're undergoing evolution. And the reason our institutions, our traditional religions, are all crumbling is because they're NO LONGER RELEVANT. (Furious laughter.)
They're no longer relevant. So it's time for us to create a new philosophy, and maybe even a new religion, you see, and that's okay because that's our right as free children of God, with minds that can imagine anything, and that's kind of our role."

Because it's all commercialized. Advertising, sales gimics for everything. A lot of people don't care enough to bother learning what a holiday is about. Stereotyping also adds to it. eg. St. Patricks Day

To be honest i dont really know. Americans are idiots in my eyes unfortunately. I atleast watched bush thank the hard workers of a union in new york today. I agree with you though. Nothing wrong with working labor day though. Not everyone can have it off.

Because everyone's idea and tradition of each holiday may not be the same as everyone else and since we live in the USA it is our choice to decide how to spend that national holiday

We need new holidays! How about making the Super Bowl into a long weekend and create Super Bowl Monday?

They have all become too commercial. There is a sale for everything. It's crazy.

I agree...they're so commercialized now. All they are now is an excuse to go to the mall.
