I just really don't know what to think of their so-called 'love' for each other and their marriage. Was he really over Kattie or did he just marry Marry because he wanted to be as close to Kattie as he could be? Did he just want a wife and all that comes with it? I wonder if he would have married Kattie had she repented right away or shortly after. Why didn't he chase after her? Was he jealous of Dan in the beginning? Does he still secretely want to be with Kattie? I really don't have a grasp on this character. Someone please help!

Ok, this is more of a debate rather than a question. If u want my own personal interpretation, I would have to say He was never over Kattie. He basically needed a new life, a more stable and mature way of living. Kattie is portrayed as being very special and as far as I understand, the love of his life. He will always have a sweet spot for her.
