don't do that- my son's pediatrician said it's not a good idea to get them holding their own bottle because it becomes a possession and then they don't want to give it up. you've held it for 8 months, what's another 3-4? my son never held his own bottle and i am glad, he weaned himself at 11 months and was using a sippy cup completely, and i had started him on one at 6 months just with water here and there. it'll make a great deal of difference when it comes time for the switch believe me.

My Daughter is 8 months and i thoughts she didn't know how either well one day the phone rang i set the bottle on her chest so the nipple was right above her month came back she had that thing in her month drinking away. Then tried to give her a bottle and she kept putting her hand out to the side she knows its easier for mom to hold the bottle so now i will some times just lay it on her chest and walk away and she does it her self make sure he isn't smarter then you think.

I would keep holding the bottle for now and try to get him to hold a sippy cup, even if it is empty and he just plays with it. That is the true challenge, switching from a bottle to a cup, and most pediatricians tell you they need to give up the bottle at a year.
Good Luck! :-)

Every child is different . he will hold it when he is ready to hold it . Don't force him . If he wants the bottle bad enough he WILL hold it. Try introducing him to a cup and take him off the bottle . Also, do not hold it for him. He has become acustom to u doing it for him the past 8 months .

He'll do it when he's ready to. I thought my youngest would never hold the bottle on his own and one day he just did it.

Try to position the bottle so he doesnt have to for a while and the if it falls let him try to get it . you may also want to work on his motor skills and sight skills let him reach for toys of bright colors and baby finger foods something for babys only usually gets their attention.

All kids are different and do things when they are ready. Give him some time and he'll be holding it in no time.
