K, Racism is wrong. I'm white and I would never judge anyone based on their skin color. Anyone with half a brain knows there are good and bad people in every color, race, religion, and gender. So what is up with racism against whites? First of all, the generations of white people that had slaves are long gone. Why do people of other races think its ok to look down on white people, call us crackers, etc.? Revenge? Hello, I didnt do it. Whats up with that movie Guess Who? If that were a movie about white parents being pissy about their daughter marrying a black man, oh my gosh, people would have freaked out. But no, its funny for black people to be racist. Whens it all gonna stop? When are we all gonna be just people?

The original movie WAS about a white girl dating a black guy!!!!
I understand where you are coming from - I'm from Sacramento, CA, and for some reason a lot of black people there seem to really hate white people, and aren't shy about saying so. Now I live in L.A. and black people here don't seem to hate white people quite as regularly. And my boyfriend is black, so that's a good thing. I don't think it is ok FOR ANY RACE to be racist. And I think a lot of people feel the same way.

Guess Who is a modern day reversal of the movie, Guess Who's Coming to Dinner starring Sydney Potier in the sixties. You are correct. Racism is wrong no matter what your racial or ethnic background. However, to say that you are not a part of it is also erroneous. You benefit from the continued practice whether or not you acknowledge it. I am African American and I encounter racism just about every day of my life. Have you ever entered a store and been followed? Had a check double checked before it was accepted? Had to explain to your child what the n word means? It is ugly and some people do not deal well with it. They try to fight fire with fire. That is wrong, but an understandable reaction. If you go into my profile, you'll see where I answered a racist with both intelligence and some heat today. It depends on how I'm feeling. The vast majority of the time I just shrug it off, but other times I give a taste of the racist medicine back. We are all human. Until the disenfranchisement of all people is discarded you can expect a mixed bag of reactions.
My adult son was harassed for trying to visit me recently. He was just ringing my doorbell with a friend, also African American, when I was out. A neighbor in the building called the police and reported "suspicious" black men outside the building. Five cars responded! I reported the incident to the buiding management and let them know that since I am African American, I will probably have African Americans visit me, including men! I also went to the local police station and requested a talk with the desk seargent. I did not get very far. This occured on the day of Rosa Parks burial! BTW, I was not home because I was taking my Serbian b/f to the airport! So I am not racist.
Believe me, racism is alive and well in America. It is real. It is painful. Just do all you can not to be a part of it, but have a little compassion toward people who are too injured by it to not lash out sometimes.

I've never thought that racism from ANY race was acceptable. My dad happens to hate anyone that isn't black which, as I've told him in so many words, is bullshit so yes I know from personal experience that you don't have to be white to be racist. However, in another century or so we'll all be so mixed up with different races that there will be no place for racism to exist. Too bad I won't be alive when that happens.

By the way, the movie Guess Who is a remake of the original called "Guess Whose Coming to Dinner" about a white family having black people over to dinner. It was a huge deal when it came out because at the time the civil rights movement was still going on. Just thought I'd throw that in.

Even among whites, some can get away with racism while others can't, depending on which political party they belong to (ie. conservatives get labled "racist" where liberals get a pass). Some examples follow:
Senator Allen (R) recently called an Indian man by the name "Macaca," setting off a firestorm of criticism that he is racially insensitive.
Last year, Senator Byrd (D) used the "N-word" with almost no outcry. Even worse, he's a former member of the KKK.
Last month, conservative Mel Gibson made anti-Semetic comments. The news media across the country blasted him.
Some years back, Senator Hillary Clinton (D) called a man a "F***ing Jew bastard." There was some protest from the Jewish community, but the media were almost silent.
Why can't we just decide that all racism is bad (or give everyone a pass to say whatever they want)? But you're right: the way things stand now, some racism is accepted, and some is not, depending on who the "racist" is.
And from what I have seen abroad, this inequity is true in many countries where racial diversity exists, not just the USA...

Hey there! I think the answer lies in your second sentence after your question: "Anyone with half a brain knows there are good and bad people in every color, rage, religion and gender." That statement alone gives you your answer. Not all people of color, blacks or others are racist or prejudiced against whites.

Yes, many blacks are very bitter about the effects that racism has had on many generations, and no matter how you slice it, it still exists today. Is it justified that a black man can't get a cab in New York, even a black celebrity? Was it right that my son, who at 18, had worked hard to buy an old BMW, fixed it up, only to be pulled over, thrown against the car and frisked by white policemen? This is a kid who'd never been in trouble in his life! These are the kinds of things that leaves many blacks bitter and resentful and positive that racism will never end.

Yet, while I am angry still at what happened to my son years ago I am not bitter and I don't hold it against all white people, because I have plenty of examples to the contrary: a white guy who gave me my first break in the field of IT; white friends who've been there for me and encouraged me. The difference is that many blacks, especially those who are poor, don't get the benefit of balance in relationships with whites that I have had. This holds true for many whites who have had negative experiences with blacks. They have not had the benefit of good interactions with blacks and so they believe the good doesn't exist. That is why there is racism - suspicion, mistrust, resentment, and perpetuation of stereotypes. We don't treat one another as individuals. We treat one another as "races" not as diverse people with feelings, experiences, thoughts and ideals as varied as there are stars in the sky.

I have often heard black people refer to each other as ******. Why? And since when did Ebonics become a language? And since when did it become something to be proud of? Spanish translations on grocery store items was rare. Now not only common place but the English is in smaller type. We used to be the melting pot of the world. Now no one melts and mixes with the other. We grow more polarized. When we melted together we did great things. Even went to the moon a few times. Did you know a Filipino built the first test car that became the lunar rover?

So why do black people call each other ******? And if its OK that they do it, it must be OK for me to use it too, right? And I will never be turned down for another job or promotion because they need a woman, or a minority or a disabled gay pregnant black female veteran of the Vietnam era, right?

I think next time they ask me my race I'm going to mark other and put in Klingon, and act really crabby. Or Borg and put one of those wireless hands free things in my ear so I can talk on my cell phone. Poof instant minority.

on a serious note, if you are going to come into this country and not assimilate Then your not an american. Resitance is futile. Yeah, I'm going with the borg thing.

As a side note the referance that blacks use with each other was spelled out in my original text. Yahoo automaticly * it out. What if a black person wanted to use it here...would it have worked?

No its just you!! And the original MOVIE was indeed about a black guy, meeting a white family. (Know ur history before creating controversy). Organizations like the NAACP exists for greater reasons beyond Acts of Fair Treatment) one being the KKK, and other organizations built on HATE and HARM of the black man or other races. However, I agree that racism is TRAGIC and never ending- and no one has an excuse for hate, its disgusting. But this question is still in the ranking for agitating the situation you believe is incorrect, do you feel like you've been cheated unjust. :) Don't pity yourself sweetie. I KNOW exactly what that feels like. . And for the record, I've never called any of my white female or male friends CRACKERS.

The Movie 'Guess Who?' is is a remake of a movie called 'Guess Who'sComing to Dinner?' and it's exactly that - a white family with a black potential son in law. I haven't seen the new one, but the old one ends with the white family siding with the black man against their whole predjudiced family and the movie was designed to help people see the whole waste involved with predjudice. We still have a long way to go though.

Good question, very good question. When will humanity realize that in the end, we are the same, just people? It wont stop until we make it stop. Stand up and tell the world how you feel and be heard. The younger generations are going to have to make right the trespasses of the old. We are all just people, but some still cant look past the rainbow. If we were all born blind the world would be better off.

Some people are racist against blacks and Spanish people still, not just you guys. I agree with everything you said, but your still labeling others. Racism is everywhere, honey their are still some KKK's out there and some people and some people are still enslaving others. We should look upon ourselves and be happy that this world is so different and full of diverse people, because what kind of world would this be if everyone was white, if everyone was female!
