Hot Rod just did a build in their latest mag, the heads were worth more than 100 hp over stock on a '73 400 smogger. You need to change to RAIV style headers, and pick the right cam and intake.

Edelbrock heads out of the box are slightly better than mildly ported stock heads. By mildly ported I mean port entrances at head mating flange are matched to the gasket openings and some valve pocket blending. given the cost of mildly porting any stock head as described above, the Edelbrocks are actually a cost saver usually. In addition, they'll reduce the weight on the front of your car which is already nose heavy.

While Edlebrock heads are good heads it all depends on how much money you want to spend. I prefer heads from Airflow Research. They get me down the 1/4 in 9 1/2 sec. but they are very high priced. If you are just building a street machine you will be happy w/ them.(Edlebrock)

I don't have any Pontiacs myself, but as a parts tech who sold Edelbrocks, I can tell you that the vast majority of the guys who used Edelbrock heads on their BOPs were very happy with them.

Edelbrock is a good cylinder head. I have seen them used with very good results. If you match a camshaft pretty well with them (their tech line, or any camshaft manufacturer can help you decide on a camshaft) they make good power.
