The musical of course!

My mom is from Oklahoma and my grandpa was a sooner.

Apparently my mom's aunts dipped snuff (or chewed, I forget) and when my mom was in high school (1945?) she always tried to get her aunties to hide in the back room when her friends would come over.

My grandpa ran a gas station ... single pump for regular and single pump for diesel. The station looked like a shack in the picture. We think we see propane tanks on the side of the building but it might be oil, it's just too hard to see.

I still have a vintage ice scraper from that gas station in the trunk of my car.

The word instantly reminds me of 2 things: the Gold Rush in the 19th century I learned about from a French cartoon book "La ruee vers l 'or" when I was a child 45 years ago, and the bombing of Oklahohoma City in 1995.

I think of the musical, Oklahoma.
I think of green fields and oil grasshoppers moving up and down.
I think of the Oklahoma football team.
Okie From Muskogee
I have never been there. Honestly, I never put Oklahoma on my list of places to visit.

The musical
Mickey Mantle
Woody Guthrie
Grapes of Wrath
and following my crazy ex-father in law across a flooded Red River bridge with tornadoes popping up all around us. That man was dangerous

Sorry, but my first reaction is to break into song!

"OOOOOOH-klah-hoe-ma,
where the wind comes sweeping down the plain...
Where the waving wheat
Can sure smell sweet
When the wind comes right behind the RAAAAAAin...."

Apart from that... er... I think most of my information about Oklahoma comes from the Rogers and Hammerstein musical. But then again, I'm Canadian... :)

Honestly, I had an image of a buxom blonde wearing a ribbon with the words "Miss Oklahoma" in sparkly letters.
