Here we go, take length by width and mutiply to get your sq. footage (256) then mutiply by your depth (2" ) by your square footage to get your cubic feet, then divide by 9 to get your cubic yards, thats how it is sold in the bag, generally about 11/2 cubic yards per bag. So if everything comes out right it should take you a little over 6 cubic yards or about 41/2 to 5,- 11/2 cubic bags of peat to cover your area at about 2" deep. Hope I helped, Good Luck

You'll need about 4.72 cubic yards of peat. Its a matter of getting your square feet, cubic feet, and cubic yards. You SF is length times width. Your CF is multiplying by 2" (.166). Your CY is a conversion from CF.

Why peat moss? Why not compost? If your soil is primarily sand, ok, but otherwise I'd recommend compost, which has nutrients that peat moss lacks.

well, you're finding the area of the garden space. so, the formula for volume is length x width x height. so do 16x16x2.
