sounds like you need to make a trip to the dr and get an ultrasound done to make sure there is not some hemmoraging going on inside. dont wait--it could be harmful.

YES it can be normal. its from hormones..
Within the few weeks immediately following birth, some newborn girls will experience a small amount of bleeding from the vagina. This is entirely normal and occurs as the level of the mother's hormones in the baby's system gradually decreases. The result basically is the equivalent of a tiny menstrual period.
This type of vaginal bleeding usually lasts less than a day and is not painful. No special evaluation or treatment is needed; and in fact, such bleeding during infancy can be somewhat reassuring, because when a baby girl's body responds in this way to the drop in hormone levels, it's a sign that her system is working properly.
The important thing to keep in mind is that neither the presence nor the absence of bleeding in these early weeks is anything to be greatly concerned about. Either situation can be considered normal.

Hope this helps...got it from the merck online. I would still call, but this might give you some comfort.
Newborn girls normally have a vaginal discharge of mucus, often mixed with a small amount of blood. This discharge is due to estrogen absorbed from the mother before birth. It usually stops within 2 weeks, as the level of estrogen in the blood decreases. Normally, older infants and girls, except those near puberty, do not have any significant vaginal discharge.

I don't know anything about it, but the following information may be useful:
"The genitals of newborn girls should also be gently washed with warm water. Bloody vaginal discharge at this age may be a normal response to maternal hormones.19 Physicians should stress to the parents the importance of properly bathing their infants."

I am glad that you are going to call the doctor tomorrow. Congratulations on your new baby!

This IS normal! My son had blood in his diaper (urine) and the pediatrician said it was normal and that it would clear up within a few days and it did! I would still talk to your doc just to be safe but I'm certain all is okay.

I would call just in case, but honestly, I think all the other ladies are right. Baby girls often have a mini peroid caused by hormones they got while in the womb! I've heard of this several times! If you're really concerned, have her checked out, but I would bet you $100 that it's just a hormone thing!!
Hang in there and congrats!

Yes totally normal. They should have told you this at the hospital. It's hormonal and will last for a few days. Nothing to worry about.

It is NOT normal. My daughter never had bleeding, she is 4 now. It doesn't seem like much but to a 4 day old that is a lot of blood, I would take her to the emergency room asap.
