I'm a Japanese.
Sometimes I hear Football is the No1 spors in USA.
But I still can't believe Baseball isn't No1.
Definition of No1 sports is considerable.
NBA has many games, so the number of the audience is the largest. and American football is the lagert in the sports event.
Considering many factors, what is the No1 popular sports in USA?
For example, children's future dream is a baseball player, and children play baseball after school in Japan. I dont suppose children play American foot ball after school in US.
Considering those things, What is the No.1 sports in USA?

Foot ball...
then basket ball...
then baseball...
and yes... American students DO play American Football after school... more parents here hope their sons grow up to play football for school than baseball...
I think football is considered "more manly" than baseball... there's more physical energy required, bigger and tougher bodies... it just seems more macho. There is Womens Baseball..... but yet... no Womens Football... plus, the cheerleaders are a big plus for the guys.

For a long time, baseball was the most popular sport in the United States. So much so it's called "the national pastime".
However, many sports grew in popularity (due to the rise of the power of television in the 1950s & 1960s) but none more so than football.
Football's popularity was helped mostly because of the television age. Football games have been regularly broadcast, since the 1960s, on autumn afternoons on Saturdays and Sundays. Since then, the sport became more popular than baseball.
The Super Bowl is the most watched television event of the year.
Baseball is a long season of 162 games in which games are on television, every day from early April to early October. But since many people go on vacation during the summer, the television ratings are not as high as football.
The World Series, held during late October, still gets very good ratings every year.
Major League Baseball is enjoying higher than ever attendance. Each team hosts 81 games and attendance is averaging 28,000 per team per game.
But, the National Football League has never been more popular and due to its shrewd marketing is now the most wealthy sports league in USA. Some teams are worth $1 Billion. NFL teams host 8 games a year and average about 68,000 fans per game.
Many kids play "touch" football after school, each day. It's probably more easier to get a football game going than a sandlot baseball game because of the equipment involved.
Despite football's popularity, baseball still holds a special place in the hearts of American sports fans. They don't like the game to be disrespected or tarnished. It's history matters more than any other sport and most American boys are introduced by fathers to baseball before any other sport.

Yes kids play football after school in the US. Football and basketball are the two most popular sports. The feeling here is that baseball moves too slow and gets boring.

I really believe that fantasy sports have really helped with the popularity of such sports as football, basketball and baseball.
As a fantasy sports participant for several years now, in all 3 sports....I would have to say that Football has become the most popular in the US, followed by baseball and basketball.

I still have to stick with Baseball as Americas Favorite Past-time. What other sport offers children a chance at the Little League World Series!

Football is the #1 sport in the USA. Think about how everything virtually shuts down on Super Bowl Sunday! But I think that as far as popularity, NASCAR is making a serious move toward the front of the pack. Everybody at one time or another has driven home after work and was "drafting" or "qualifying".

American Football is number one. NFL stadiums are usually sold out for every regular season game. College fans support their teams very well. If you have ever been to an Oklahoma football game... Their fans, band and Sooner Scooner might make you puke but if you can hold your lunch it is a sight to behold. Baseball is a close second followed by Basketball, Hockey and Football (Soccer)... NASCAR is making a run... It is like rednecks are coming out of the woodwork everywhere to support NASCAR... Nuts!
