I'm not sure, maybe there's something wrong with the battery. I would go to the Apple store and have it checked out. In the meantime, keep the backlight off or on a short time.

It depends on how old your iPod is, if it is over 2 years old then, you are probably going to have the battery replaced, which isn't cheap, and you'd be better off buying a new one. If you iPod is fairly new, it might be covered under warrenty, I would go back to the place you bought it, and have them look at it.

My iPod has performed this to boot. basically I value it for like 3 days and it should not be complete. i'm uncertain, in keeping with risk a production facility malfunction? i found, although, permit it value for an INSANE time ( in keeping with risk a week) and it would artwork. mine does the same thing....when you plug it in within a few minutes it usually says.."okay to disconnect"...though you can see battery is not fully charged...I just leave mine plugged in and keep checking until it shows battery fully charged....not sure about the time( 4hours) but I have never had a problem since doing that.

i use my mini ipod at the gym and only get around 4 hours when fully charged because i listen to it very loud, hence you use it up quicker

May be a defective battery. Try to take it back to apple store and see if there is a recall or a fix.
