Does NASCAR going big-time help or hurt the local speedway?

i think it does a little of both. first there are some areas that have definitely been hurt as nascar "outgrew" them..

and then there is other areas in which it has benefitted. i mean, let's face it.. the world and love of stock car racing has definittely grown thanks to nascar and it's fame....which often gets people who never would have gone to a small track before out in the stands. and of course when they get there and see what all else is has to offer it's helps.
i think grass-roots of the sport will always be the grass-roots. you'll always have hometown heroes who might never drive a awesomcup car, but on the dirt track on friday or saturday night they are heroes. there is something that the small track life has that Nascar, in my opinion, can never truly replace. i love my nascar and i love going to races..but i also love my small tracks and love going there.
also, look at how many big drivers have gone in and bought tracks and teams to try to help it all grow.. and how many drivers make appearances at their local tracks.. that all helps those small areas boom.
the drivers never want to see the grass-roots hurt, b/c that's where they all cut their teeth... and i think they all take too much crap for the bigness of nascar and it's supposed "hurting of little tracks"

I tend to believe that the local race tracks that happen to be NASCAR sanctioned are benificial to both NASCAR and the tracks. I would watch the super late models run on the dirt tracks with or without NASCAR. Others may visit the local tracks because of a NASCAR sanction.

To me, it looks like a good partnership.

the local speedway part of NASCAR has been dead since about the 70's. since around the 70's dirt tracks were gone from cup racing. and with how they are going expect to see some tracks like darlington eventually get cut out of the schedule. they left north wilkesboro in i think 97, they left the rock in i think 2002 or 2003, the southern 500 was taken away from the normal date and moved to near the end of the season, year after that the southern 500 was cut out of the schedule.

NASCAR has grown and so has the short tracks around the country.A lot of short tracks now run a special feature on the Friday or Saturday before a race.So the grassroots racing does make a benefit in or from NASCAR.
