My god. Anyone who risks thier life on a daily basis should not have a family. Family first. Were you really shocked when u heard he got killed by a WILD animal? I wasn't. I feel awful for his family... For example: If you're single and love riding a motorcycle w/o a helmet, great- ur still an idiot. But, if you have a family, u better have a helmet on because you are jeopordizing the security of your whole entire family. Steve you were an idiot. Career man not Family man.

Ok- yes he did something he loved and thats great- but was it smart?, "croc hunter" hmm sounds like a safe job to take on while raising a family. I dont think you all see the fact that his job is his priority. Yes its unfortunate and uncommon for a stingray to attack like that, but what about the other hundreds of wild animals (poisonous/dangerous) he handled regularily. Rip the dead? Hopefully u will all see past that.

maybe i should ask if irwin was an idiot as a father. I cant deny the good things the guy did for nature. but thats not what im getting at.

His wife backed him, but nobody can speak for the children who lost thier father, a good man, who definately put his dreams/career ahead of his family (kids). If thats whats important to you- great, but its not fair to have children when they arent the priority. If they were ud think he would not catch animals... There are risks of dying everyday, but he needs to be held accountable for the risks he was taking. He gets props in my book for helping people/animals/ and accomplishing his goals. But in my opinion he didnt give his children the best oppurtunites- obviously because he risked his own influence in thier lives... they lost him and that will affect their entire life here on out. Im surprised how many people justify his kids losing a father to his own passion for animals. Take care of ur kids or dont have them.

Thats a tough question! It involves the "family passion" and the "career pasion". Obviously he choose and thought he could handle both. It's sad. And sometimes we think that because we are caeful or experience, it can't happen to us, but this is just another proof that we are wrong.
Animals are like the ocean it must be respected!
It's funny because including myself people love to see animals and the "wild" part intrigues as all but we hope to have a connection and that some animals are kinda human like an think but we are wrong! Bottom line when it comes down to it, they are animals!
Why do we use the phrase, OH your an animal!
We know the answer we just don't pay attention!
But I have to say your right in my opinion, it just people tend to not express themselves as you did in public so then they react either ignorantly or simply to ignore.

Just like the laws ------
If you hit me i hit you who goes to jail BOTH why.......
Cuba! US Always trying to change it, what about the homeless here, the injustice here..........
and so many other issues.....

I dint know why I even bother answering questions like this you uncompassionate....
When Mr. Irwin married his wife she knew what he was all about.
It was no mystery , she loves animals too. When they had children I'm sure it was a decision they both made together.
As far as you r comparison to riding with out a helmet. Mr. Irwin was not being reckless. He was diving with professionals and for the most part stingrays are gentle beings of the ocean. From all accounts it is what is considered a freak accident.
He happened to get " hit" with the barb in probably the only place that could possibly result in death.
His work was not simply a career, it was a life style choice. He was by no means a thrill seeker or weekend warrior. He was educated and trained in dealing with wild animals and was respected in his field.
Many people risk their lives on a daily basis by simply walking out their front door and driving on the freeway.Just think of Mr. Irwins front door as the ocean that day.

He is no more an idiot than you or I. He died doing something he loved doing. Although dangerous as his job/passion was, everyone seems to be attracted to his shows. He has done a lot to educate people about a lot of myths concerning a lot of the creatures in this world. We are all going to die. Some sooner than others. I will give him credit that he died doing something he loved. His family will be taken care of. The man was worth over a couple million dollars in US money. I am sure that his family will eventually recover and move on with their lives. Next time you post something about someones death, you may want to be a little more compassionate. You could die tonight by electrocution on your keyboard. People might say what a waste he was on the computer so much. All I'm saying is, as long as we all die doing something we enjoy, Then we die happy.

Not nice to speak ill of the dead. Mr. Irwin was a naturalist and conservationist as was his family. The Irwins own a private zoo in Austrailia. He knew the risks he was taking as did his wife Terry but she loved him for what he did and who he was as a person.

No one ever knows when they will die , he could have just as easily died in his sleep from a congenital illness. The fact he was working on a new tv series one which was going to involve Bindy Sue and doing something he loved was a fitting end. We should all be so lucky to die doing something we love.

I wouldn't call him an idiot.
I think what happened was inevitable , due to the fact of his connection towards wild animals.
Wild life is always wild , no matter what , and the amount of risk involved while around them is very high.
He took a risk , and it backfired on him , I'm pretty sure he knew the risk before he even went in the water.
He was a wonderful entertainer with a great rapport with wild animals and will be sorely missed by many people around the world.
R.I.P Steve Irwin.

I just can't see calling this man an idiot. He does what so many people in this world fear. By this I don't mean facing dangerous animals. I mean risking everything he has to do what he loves. So many people have dreams but never chase them so they will only ever be dreams. Yet Steve chased it and did what he wanted to do, what he loved to do. You have to admire a man that scarifices to do what he loves to do because unlike most he is making an effort.

I thought that guy was pretty cool. He seemed to have endless compassion for all living things. Yeah, I totally agree with your overall point... the point that thinking of family is a must, but I think his wife was his equal... she loved him, and the life they shared together. She too is an animal lover and researcher. I think it is a shame he is gone. You know, he wasn't ONLY a thrill seeker... he has done numerous amazing things for various charities, and for the understanding and appreciation of our animal kingdom.

Rest well, Mate.

Oh Dear! Wake up to yourself.! There are many jobs people take on that are dangerous and lets face it, if you love your job you are more likely to be good at it. No-one can be condemned because they chose a dangerous occupation. We would never make progress if it weren't for the risktakers of society.
Steve, I love you, may you R.I.P.

i will never forget the image of steve irwin talking to the camera while sharks were in a feeding frenzy all around him while he stood in the water...the guy was a crazy kook but he was fascinating, funny and very entertaining...i kind of felt one day his luck would run out the way he took risks dealing with wildlife but i would never have guessed it would take a stingray to be the culprit....my condolences to his friends and family....he was one of a kind and his legacy will continue as his shows run on animal planet

Thank god someone else other than me thinks Steve Irwin is an idiot. I am sorry he died of course, and he has left a wife and young family; that's terrible. But I have not been able to watch much of any of his shows as to me he tends to torment a lot of very dangerous animals. I don't think any animal should be tormented dangerous or not.
I am very sorry but Steve Irwin has made a lot of money (millions ) doing what he has done for the cameras Not to mention dangling his small baby in front of a crocodile that was really bad
