The message you are seeing about "no program associated" simply means that you don't have a program installed on your computer that is capable of interpreting the contents of the file. In the filename look for a period...the text that comes after the period is called an extension and will identify the type of program you need to use the open that attachment. Common formats include .pdf = Adobe Acrobat Reader, .doc = Microsoft Word and compatibles, .xls = Microsoft Excel, etc. The easiest way is to type the extension into www.google.com and find out what program to use. Good luck :)

Hmmm

Odds are you got a message from a mac and you're on pc.

What do you anticipate it to be ... a picture?

First of all ... download the attachement to your desktop.

Then right click and "rename file" ... this should show you the file name and it's extension. like prettybird.jpg

If it's just prettybird with no extension try adding .jpg to the end. Possible extensions are many but try .gif or .png if that doesn't work.

Otherwise its a file from a program (like a geneology program) that you don't own ...and you can't do much about that.

If you could add what you anticipated, it'd be a good clue.

Luck!

You probably don't have the program to run the attachment on your computer. If you google "file extensions" with the letters after the "." in the file, you will be able to determine what program is needed to see the file properly.

For example :
moonshot.ppt is a Microsoft Office Powerpoint presentation.
Client list.doc is a Microsoft Office Word document
Report.pdf is an Adobe Acrobat file that needs a pdf reader to view.

etc. etc. etc.

In a nut shell, it is what it says. Your computer tried to open the file, but couldn't find a program to open it with.

Depending on what the file is, you might be able to open it up with another program.

Depending on the file type or extension, this is the part after the "." such as ".jpg" or ".mp3".

With Windows XP it breaks down to this by default:
Music: Windows Media Player
Pictures: Windows Picture and Fax Viewer

Everything else would most likely be dependent on a third party program.
Example: Zipped Files
.rar and .zip - these requires zipping programs to "un-zip" them.

ok, right here wager is optimal if u deleted a "folder" and not a "record" as mentioned in ur first sentence. the rationalization why the folder u deleted isn't interior the recycle bin is with the aid of the fact it became too vast to slot in there. reckoning on the quantity of area u enable for ur recycle bin, something larger than that gets deleted completely without going contained in the direction of the bin. domicile windows usually asks u to substantiate the everlasting delete b4 doing it nevertheless. subsequently, the .tmp record isn't the element u deleted and so won't be able to be converted right into a folder. To get better the lost folder, try finding for a restoration utility. for occasion, i understand there was once a utility from symantec referred to as ghost that allowed ppl to get better information even after formatting their annoying force. There could be some simlar courses accessible yet I dont understand any. If to get better the folder, u used a restoration utility and ended up with the tmp record, then I recommend u try discover some thing linked with that utility to open the tmp record. word: those restoration softwares at the instant are not meant for "the informal consumer", so I recommend if u rly rly want ur folder back, bypass to between the computing device shops in ur section and ask them.

as the others have already said, if the file name is something like "abc.rar" then it is an RAR file. for this, u will need to download the winrar program and install it before you can open that file.
