No, though in Central and South America people of Portugese descent are considered Latinos as are people of Spanish descent. Don't tell a Portuguese he's Spanish - the two countries have fought many a war against each other over the centuries. They insist proudly upon being recognized as distinct each from the other.

Latino became a term invented by the individuals decrease back contained in the day that have been ignorant wherein race to place those that appeared distinctive to them that spoke Spanish. Brazilians are no longer blanketed in US census contained in the Latino class. as quickly as I have been given my US passport they blanketed me as Caucasian which of course i'm no longer merely because of the actuality they do no longer understand the place to place Brazilians as there is not any longer a class for us. Latin and Latino to me are the comparable element, yet contained in the U. S. view of the be conscious, that's not. So the French, Portuguese, Spanish, Italians are Latin or Latinos. incredibly, the unique Latinos are the Italians, the area the place Latin became born.

Portuguese are not Spanish, although they are Iberian, like the Spanish. I know a Brazilian woman who bristles when anyone calls her "Hispanic". She considers that term to mean someone who speaks Spanish, and is from Latin America.
