CAUCASIAN - - - It is rude Immigrant Bashing that has planted this idea that Hispanic is some freakish Race that most likely landed on Earth from some other planet, -- -- Hispanic people are frequently of mixed race since the prejudices that Americans north of The Mexican border differed from the predujices South of The Mexican but still the root of Hispanic is 'of Spain,' and Spain is in Europe and aside from the Basques its people are Caucasian --
Personally I say be what YOU want to be and H E double L to those who wish to argue with you!

"Hispanic (Spanish: Hispano) is a term denoting a derivation from Spain, its people and culture. It follows the same style of use as Anglo indicates a derivation of England and the English. Thus, the Spanish-American War in Spanish is known as Guerra Hispano-Estadounidense, the "Spanish-German Treaty" is Tratado Hispano-Alemán, and "Spanish America" is Hispanoamérica.

As used in the United States, Hispanic is one of several terms employed to categorize all persons whose ancestry hails either from the people of Spain, any of the various peoples of Spanish-speaking Latin America, or the original settlers of the traditionally Spanish-held Southwestern United States. The term is used as a broad form of classification in the U.S. census, local and federal employment, and numerous business market researches."

Well, I'm late on this lol. But you should just check white for race and then check yes for the Latino region. Hispanic is not a race, even though most people make it out to be. Selena gomez is a latina, but she is also white. Zoe Saldana is a latina, but she is black. You can be any race and still be a latina :)

I usually decline to state... More and more these distinctions seem to fall apart. Plus many Hispanics are white caucasians to begin with. Possibly with some Arab mixed into a celtic group... Anyway, I wouldn't worry too much about it for classification. Sounds like a nice combo. My friend in High-school was half Norwegian/ Peurto Rican.

I would imagine it would depend on who wants to know. If your applying for a job, who will be your clientel? If your answering a question for a passport put whichever linage you resemble the most, no sense in risking being accused of having a fake one. Just don't put down hispanic if you don't speak the lingo, can you imagine some eager beaver getting an interpetor for you when you don't need one?

You state you are Hispanic in the first sentence - where exactly is your confusion?

Any "Hispanic" can trace his or her ancestry back to Europe. In fact, many Hispanics have closer ties to European ancestry than "Caucasians".

Legally, Hispanic would be the most appropriate term.

hispanic/caucasian or vice-versa, probably. Or, you could use the "decline to answer" option.

Race is a tricky thing. Apparently, if you have an Australian Aboriginal great grandparent you can be classed as "Aboriginal", but I, with an Irish great grandmother, can most certainly not be classed as Irish.
