Go to www.flylady.com and order her feather duster. It's the best feather duster I have ever seen. It's a little more expensive, but I've had mine for 2 years and they work amazingly well.
The dust actually sticks to the feathers and doesn't just float through the air. It's AWESOME!!

The Swiffer duster is the best! It attracts dust to it, picks it up, and doesn't disturb the items around it, so you don't have to move everything out of the way. I highly recommend it!

if there are dust jackets on the books, try this
http://www.pledge.com/duster-plus.aspx
if there are no dust jackets, there are other companies that make similar dusters without a spray...
both of these products are great b/c you just toss the duster part after each dusting...

I'm in the Swiffer duster camp. They come with a nice bent handle so you can get into small spaces, in between books, etc.

Try a Swiffer Cloth, they are very effective in attracting, picking up, and holding in place: common allergens, dust, dirt, and hair. They're also soft, dry, disposable, and leave no residue.

If you dust them once a week or so, a dusting rag should do, as long as you wet dust the shelf they're on.

Use a big, worn out soft-bristled brush. You can even use a disposable toothbrush for the little corners or dents in your books.
