An additional thing to check on along with all the other mentioned facts, is insurance.

Depending on your age, riding experience, where you live, taken a riders safety course, age of bike, ect.... Insurance may dictate weather you want a bike like the Ninja, Cantana, GSR styles.

A cruiser will be ALOT cheaper insurance wise.

I get the impression you are new to motorcycles. In that case, I would recommend getting a Ninja 250 or 500, as they're forgiving, predictable, and relatively easy to learn to ride on. If you buy it new, expect to pay around $5,000 for a 500, or $3,000 for a 250. That doesn't include licensing or insurance; add a couple hundred more for that and your state sales tax. For a used one, you could probably find one in good shape for $2,000 or so.

Dear n2bateyou2000, your math is off.

To the asker: There is no such thing as a "nice" Ninja. All Kawasaki Ninjas are Evil, with a capital E.

If you want a "nice" bike (ie a girl's bike), go with the other brands.

Figure about 10 dollars per cc. If you want the 1000cc Ninja, you will spend about 11,000 bucks. And go with the Yamaha or the Honda.

You can pick them up for about £2-3000, but it might not be that nice still!. Please don't buy a 600 as a first bike, believe me a CBR125 would be perfect to get you going and not frighten you constantly Please don't think i'm taking the mick, the last mate of mine who wanted a 600 straight off managed to flip it!!!!!. It was his own fault tho', the bike doesn't have to go flat out. Today's 600's hit 60 in first- in just under 3.5sec!, 100 in second and i've had 168 on the speedo of my own! They're not learner material!!!
