A pure substance cannot be separated into other substances by any mechanical process. Gold for example is pure substance, (pure gold, not an alloy)

a substance is said to be pure if there are no foreign elements mixed up in the substance.
a toothpaste is said to be 100% vegetarian if only vegetable matter is mixed to make it.
gases like nitrogen are said to be pure if no other gaseous,turbulent products are mixed in them.
commercial nitrogen will be of 99.5% purity only and 99.9999999% purity nitrogen is the purest nitrogen.
nitrogen normally prepared from vapourisation of liquid nitrogen is said to be the purest form of nitrogen.
