Usually a four year degree as a bachelor of business with specialty in finance....(as opposed to the other business specialties of marketing, management, accounting, systems analysis, etc.)

Basic degree in commerce or accountancy or banking with a diploma in banking and finance would be apt to become a loan officer in bank/financial institutions. The CAIIB conducted by IIBF is very useful and this institute offers some more diploma courses for the Bank officers.

A degree or a diploma course in finance and accounting is essential. More than that you need aptitude, commitment, skill in interacting with the customers, thorough understanding the policy of the financing agency you represent and estimating the repayment of the borrower's financial capacity. Move fast. Good luck!

I presume accounting and finance would be good, but I don't think the *home* loan business would be a desirable career to enter right now...good luck!
