this person sounds classy btw....he's S.O.L. Hopefully his lawyer has been contacted. Put some people out, and waste a little governement money . The guy should get fined when he's outta jail to cover the costs and then he should figure out how to get back on track. You need your landlords as good contacts for references. Tell him to stop screwing people around.

the person has to tell the police that they have a court date and the police will make arrangements for your friend to be taken to court
