My sis-in-law is the same. She wondered the same thing. She called SS and they did allow her to work but she can only make a certain amount. If she goes over she will loose her benefits. She needs to call SS and find out what her salary cap is, if she has one. Don't let her go out and do it without first checking because it is so hard to get it back once you loose it. Good luck. Also there are MANY jobs that she can do depending on how severe her disabilities are.

SSA encourages people on disability to return to work. They will continue benefits for a period of time to determine if the person can hold down a job. There needs to be communication between the person & SSA.
I would be careful about volunteer work. I would expect that would ultimately be viewed as an ability to work.
The benefits are based on an inability to perform any work.

You can earn some money on your own, but I believe that if it is over $800 per month, it is considered "substantial income", and it will begin to affect the disability income that currently comes in.

Your friend should look into the disability laws to find out. More than likely, if she calls the local social security office, they will give her the info she needs.

Yes, she can work, but can't make over a certain amount. The government
is not in the business of making people rich. So, because she is below....
the poverty level....she is entitled to work ( if she can ) and make up the
difference. But if she earns to much, they will reduce her $ or cut her off.

Your friend is not eligible to work. If she does so, kiss disability goodby. If, she knows someone. Then, working under the table is untraceable.

From what I know of a friend of mine you can work part time. They deduct dollar for dollar what you income is. Your friend might also want to consider volunteer work.
