Check the cut, the weight & origin, the fake ones don't come from the usual places of jewels: SouthAfrica, Holland, Colombia, Alaska, India, Israel....

There are a lot of different tests, depending on the stone. Have a jeweler check it out, but here are some quick tests.
1) diamonds-hardest stone--will scratch anything (You can use a diamond to scratch test other stones, but it will cause damage).
2) some fakes are what's known as a spinel. They have a layer of stone or color in the middle, then the outside is built up with something less expensive. If you turn it on the side, you can see this very clearly.
3) if you're buying, your labels can tell you. Generally, the shorter the name, the more genuine the stone. For example, reconstituted turquoise is turquoise that has been taken apart, had the impurities removed, and been put back together. It's real, but there's a bunch of other junk in there, too.

Depends what jewels. Diamonds you can tell because a CZ is thicker cut around the girdle... plus they get foggy and stuff... and are often not as well cut at all.
You can compare a jewel to one at a jewelry store and you might be able to tell.
Fakes can be made from different plastics, glass, silicon, or other crystals. Many are grown in labs.

Real stones will scratch glass, fakes won't, that is just a first test, then you should take them to a jeweller to have them appraised, to find out their value

Fake jewels are usually glass or plastic, the settings are cheap, not heavy, and the stones are usually slightly loose, not set in tightly.
