urinary tract infection is inflammation of the tracts leading to the urinary bladder and out to the urethra; thus, causing pain when you urinate. If this is left unattended then the infection spreads into the bladder itself, causing inflammation of the urinary bladder. If that also goes unattended then it can lead to a kidney infection. Any bacterial infection should be treated by a physician. Specific antibiotics are helpful in this region. Helpful to prevent recurring UTI's is drinking cranberry juice, wearing looser fitting pants (ie no tight jeans all the time), keeping area dry (if you're a swimmer try not to sit in wet suit for long periods of time)...

bladder infection is in the bladder but this can be cause by a urinary infection as well.the urethra is where your urine passes through comes from the bladder. females get these infections more often than males.if you do get a bladder infection it can spread to the urethra unless you go to your doctor soon after you suspect you have an infection.it can never get better without antibiotics so go to your doctor.

The terms are used interchangeably, but UTI is a broader term (can include ureters and kidneys, not just the bladder).
Often they will clear up on their own (remember, women were getting UTIs for centuries before antibiotics!), but sometimes they can lead to permanent damage by scarring the kidneys. If you think you have one, see your doctor.
