I'm considering getting my fiancee an engagement ring. It's such a big trend now, and we live 3 hrs away so I'd like him to wear something too. Does anyone know the rules for something like this? Like width, or style? Is it that different from a wedding band? Finally, does anyone know a man with an engagement ring? I'd like some guy's thoughts on this too!!

I got this idea from a couple of guys I have met in college that have engagement bands. I really do think it is getting to be a bigger trend, especially with couples in a long distance relationship.

I've been happily married for over 2 years now.
I proposed to her at a concert during a particularly romantic song. 3 weeks later, she sent me an engagement ring with a note saying, "This is so the other ladies know you're already taken." It was a simple, unadorned, titanium steel ring in black with indented rings running in side and fairly thin from top to bottom and now sits INSIDE my wedding ring which was bought 2 sizes larger to insert the one to the other. It's comfortable and I like it.
Also, kept the girls at bay during the bachelor party.

Like yourself I live quite a distance from my fiance. We live 2.5 hours away from one and other. She did give me a nice spinner ring and a chain ring also which I wear on my fingers with pride. I wear one on my wedding finger actually and have been asked if I am married. But have never heard of an actual engagement ring for males (maybe I'm too old or out of touch) but if there are such things then it must just be the jewerelly association trying to make more money. Best of luck to you in finding correct answer.

Engagement rings for men are becoming more common, they're usually just wedding band type rings, but you can, of course, have anything you like, a nice signet ring for instance. If you want to go for another type of engagement gift, in Spain it's common for the woman to give the man a new watch.

I've never seen a male wear an engagement ring. But it would be nice. Maybe you should by him something that he likes that's not as classy as a wedding band. Like if his favorite color is blue then buy him a ring with some blue in it, make it look different that way it will mean something to him and he will treasure it forever.

Well, I have known women to ask the man's hand in marriage. Therefore the man wears the ring until marriage.
So, I say go for it what is there to lose.
If it will make you feel better than do it.

What a great idea! When my husband and I were engaged, I always thought it was silly that everyone could see I was taken, but not him. Good luck with the ring and your future marriage!

Great idea. Nice gesture, and a nice reminder that you already own him. Of course, I have heard that other women find a ring on a man's left ring finger an irresistable turn on. They see it as a challenge. Better make him wear it on his thumb. And have him introduce himself as Special Ed.

My highschool english teacher had an engagement band. His was just very plain and silver. I think it doesn't matter what ti looks like, as long as it is masculine, and it comes from the heart!
