Its odd isnt it, but maybe the people are finally waking up to realize the truth , that all politicians are crooks out for their own prosperity by spitting on "the people". If they truly cared they'd cut there salary down and give the difference to the people. I think they can do with not having several homes and several cars yet there are people without either.....They should have a section during voting for none of the above, maybe they'd get the hint when , none of the above wins......your thoughts?

Too true, but voting for the right person would involve becoming informed, which is more than our average American is willing to spend any time doing.

Well, you have a point. Politicians are greedy, and probably not the most moral people around. I guess if enough people started voting for third-party candidates, that might be the same as a "none of the above" wake-up call for politicians... The problem is, I think people prefer things in simple, black-and-white, two-party terms. Also, some of the third-party candidates can be a little weird/extreme. Anyway, they'd probably end up the same as the Democrat/Republican politicians after they got a taste of power. Sigh.

“None of the above” would be a great option for each elective office. It is a Libertarian concept which exists on internal party ballots. However, for it to work the citizens would have to become proactive in their involvement and understanding of the governmental system. Since a significant segment of the population doesn’t even know the name of the mayor in their own community or who their representative council members are, it is unlikely that they will vote. If they do vote, it is most likely they will not know anything about the issues.

If the citizen would become proactive then the elected politicians would be good solid people.

Yeah, there's a lot of politicians who think re-election is a given. For years now anytime I see a candidate on the ballot who isn't trying, I write in a vote for "Ficus." We have one candidate for an appellate court who didn't even bother to submit a photo or a statement. Sheesh!

How about we all get our counties and cities to use Instant Runoff Voting? You pick your top three choices for each position, and if nobody gets 50% of the first-choice votes, the lowest vote-getter is dropped and the votes that went to them get transferred to the voter's second choice.

So if there are four people running for Senator and only two are really electable but I really like a third person, I can vote for my first preference without voting against the person who's electable. It would shut up all the people who are bitc#ing about Nader ruining things, it would ensure that a candidate gets more than 50% of the vote, and it would give third parties more of a fair shake in this institutionalized, exclusional two-party system we have right now.

Oh yeah, and it would reduce the time and money spent on elections - by candidates AND by the government! How about we save millions of tax dollars by eliminating primary elections?

I think mostly people are anti incumbant this go around....the people in office have done such a bang up job....they want change, and if that means straying across party lines to do it, they are considering giving it a shot. I hope this current situation we Americans find ourselves in makes people actually pay attention to who and what they are voting for....I can only assume that after the last presidential election where our country actually voted AGAIN for the same idiot causing our problems, that no one is really paying attention to thier vote

I think people are just plain tired of the political system...period. Over the years, with the increased tv coverage, internet, explosion of information at our disposal......we've gotten tired of the political process which once intriqued us....take the JFK 'Camelot' years for example. It's not that people don't like their root party...it's that we see and hear about it all the time now...which is probably a good thing so we are informed, but at the same time it loses it's intrique.

Ya know, we need to put all these labels aside and start being "Americans" again. To hell with this and to hell with that ... and come together and all of us look at the big picture. WE, The People, have one hell of a mess on our hands that will last for generations. We need to get a grip on the truth and bust our butts sweeping up this negligent mess !
