I quit smoking and haven't touched a drink for a couple of weeks, I see these little black flashes out of the corner of my eye and freak.
I almost got into a car accident because I thought I saw a centipede on the driverside window. Is it psychological, or an effect on the eyes?

The bug crawling feeling could be the nerves "waking" up after being numb from alcohol for so long., or so I was told!

Black flashes or can you look at a light wall or the sky and see them all the time? Some people have floaters. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Floaters The description is good, but the picture isn't . . . mine are outlined in black and have a cell type structure in places. I had trouble in microbiology distinguishing the floaters from some of the organisms at first.

My experience is when people go into withdrawal . . . it's not a single centipede and you can't calm them down very easily. I have only had one patient who told me he saw some black boys wanting to stab him. He would then look at me and the expression on my face and say, "they aren't really there are they?"

It's psychological... Your mind is trying to trick you by any means necessary. The brain works in weird ways when it comes to addiction.
