The amount would depend on where you live. 100L in NYC wouldn't go nearly as far as the same amount in Biloxi.
For me, I've always considered that people who can do things like.....
buy groceries without regard to price
buy any and all clothing they need
can fix their car immediately when it breaks down
never have to use a credit card unless they want to
never have to choose between which bill to pay
can easily pay for health insurance and their medical bills
are probably upper middle class.

Wouldn't it depend on region and how many kids? 100K wouldn't put me in upper middle class where I live. Close to it.
No kids, average cost of living area, I'd say 150K is upper middle. 200K is solid upper middle. With even one kid, minimum 200K.
But if you live in the boonies, like the hills of TN, 100K can buy you a lot! My in-laws live about 1hr west of Chattanooga. Their mortgage is a few hundred less than our rent. But when I lived in Boston, I was paying $200 more for a studio apartment vs. a floor-thru apartment now. So much depends on location...and the kids thing of course.

well i think that the classes are also divided up due to what type of jobs you have. I would consider upper middle class to partner holding attorneys, doctors...things like that. Upper middle class is a wide range though. 100k-750k. On that note, i'd LOVE to make 750k a year. Me and my husband are just middle class though. 80k.
