I remember just getting up around 10:00 AM, and as I usually did in those days, I turned on the radio to get the local news on CFRA, a CNN affiliate here in Ottawa. When I noticed the station was carrying CNN audio footage, I thought this must really be serious because CFRA doesn't usually cut to CNN unless it's a really big story. Within minutes, it was clear: the World Trade Centre had been hit. One of the station's talk show hosts, Steve Madely, was "hosting" the relay of the footage, and when the south tower fell, he said, "Oh, my God."
It was then that I went downstairs and found my parents watching CNN. I was glued to CNN for the better part of the day. I had never felt so helpless in my life because I had a girlfriend in Connecticut at the time, and I always went through New York City to visit her. I had a thousand questions going through my head. How long was Manhattan going to be shut down? They seemed to be talking about how this was affecting the airlines--how, and to what extent, were Greyhound and Amtrak affected? My ex was scheduled to go in for surgery in uptown Manhattan a couple of weeks later--to what extent would the need for hospitals to set up triage centres affect her ability to even get admitted? And on and on.
I remember seeing Paula Zahn on TV later that morning, interviewing people who were searching for loved ones feared lost, and she was literally near tears as she was summing up people's emotions. At that point I wished I could just reach over through the TV set and give her a hug and say to her, "Hang in there. We all love you." When she concluded her report, her anchor remarked something like, "In this business we're trained to be indifferent, but we're not inhuman."
A couple of months ago I went to see the movie United 93 and it was like experiencing the shock of 9/11 for the first time all over again. I could actually hear Madely's "Oh my God" echoing in my mind at one point. I haven't seen the movie World Trade Centre yet, but I'm planning to go.

I was starting my second day of a new job as a law enforcement officer. I was watching the TV in the department conference room, when I saw a the second plane hit the second tower. I split my time that day between watching the TV with other members of the department, walking around government building in case an attack happened there (I work in a very well known city that was judge to be a very possible target) and answering the phone calls from people with reports of possible terrorist activity. I did not sleep for a week after the attack kept seeing the plane hit and the building come down, also watch news coverage 24-7. Thank you to the heroes from NY!

I was at work at the grocery store and a former teacher was in my line and he asked me if I'd heard about the plane crashing into the tower and I thought at first he was telling me a joke. I went home on break and about that time the second plane had just crashed and I just sat there on the couch and cried. It was really freaky when I found out later that my nephew in the army was supposed to arrive at the Pentagon on Sept 10 for a demonstration of the new Humvees but for some reason the trip kept getting postponed. He would have been there when that plane crashed. Freaky, huh?

I was on my way to school. I was not listening to the radio or anything at the time, I still did not find out about it until after my first class. After the class, two hours after the first plane hit, and still not knowing what was going on, I saw a big crowd all crammed together watching a tv in the commons and wondered what was going on. At first I very confused. Then I found out it was terrorists. I must say when I found out it was very surreal and and scared about something even worse happening soon.

We had just arrived to my sister`s on vacation at Whidbey Island in Washington. The next morning we heard about 9-11 tragedys and we gawked at the tv in starring positions and i was awed about what was happening...We were in our motorhome and my sister came out of her house and did not know anything. They had the island blocked off for the ferrys and deception pass bridge and also the Naval Station. We were told later that we were fortunate to got here last night because there was such a tight watch on the Island...

I was in school, 4th grade, and I remember a whole bunch of panic all around but they wouldn't tell us what was going on. Well, my mom came to pick me up and still wouldn't tell me what was going on. She finally told me and I freaked out and for the rest of the day I hid under my bed. My dad was late coming home and we didn't know where he was. He finally came home and I hugged him and he started to cry, so I did too. I went back under my bed and I watched the news, I don't think I slept. At least 20 planes went over my house that day and I saw the plane crash into the towers on the news over and over and over. I am to this day scared of planes. I won't ride in them, go near them, or even look at them when they are overhead.

I was in the dentist's office in the chair when I found out. When I came out, the TV was one and everyone was watching it. We went to the Mall afterward and the Mall was empty. We went home and the Twin Towers and the Pentagon was all that was on TV. It was so scary because no one really knew what was going on. It's something I don't think any of us will forget.

I was in either math or English tutoring my 1st semester of college, & I thought someone was saying that a plane crashed into our building. I was scared, but I understood wrong. But anyway, I was more sad because 2 weeks before that, I was shocked about the singer Aaliyah dying on me & my twin sister's b-day. I was depressed the whole semester.
