I'm driving from Iowa to Oklahoma Wednesday, and some of the interstates or highways on my route have tollbooths (is that what people call them?) lol, anyway, I'm not used to these and I don't want to look like a dork. How much are tolls($) and how much change should I bring with me? Thanks!

well, for example I will be traveling 72 miles, 221 miles, 50 miles on roads where they say 'portions toll'. How many times will I have to pay?! Jeeze!

I found some info for the turnpikes in Oklahoma. This is the Pikepass website and gives two sets of prices. One price is for if you have a Pikepass and the other is for if you are paying cash. Pikepass is a device you put in your car that gets scanned everytime your car goes through a tollgate. Your account is debited at a slightly discounted rate since it's cheaper for these tolls to be collected. They are also more convenient since the toll areas are designed so that people with Pikepass can continue to drive through at highway speed rather than having to stop and pay toll.

Tolls can range from $.25 to over $20, depending on the road you're on and how long you've been on it. The amount of the toll will be posted before you actually reach it, so you will have a few minutes to get the money out. You can bring change or most have booths with people in them and they can make change for you if you don't have the exact change. These lanes will be marked so make sure you're in the right one!

The toll gets greater the longer you are on the highway. Driving through a whole state might cost you $5. Just take a $20 with you. They'll make change. That'll get you there and back with enough left over road snacks. Oh yeah, and if you know the exit number, the ticket you get will tell you how much you will owe.

Usually anywhere from about a buck to as much as $5.00.
Keep a lot of one's and some quarters where you can easily reach them, and count them. That way you won't be a "dork" for holding up traffic.

Safety Tip----> keep the money where you can easily get to it, and as you use it, replace it when you stop for fuel or restroom breaks.
Don't keep in in your purse or wallet.
MANY Accidents occur just after toll plazas from people distracted by replacing purses or putting wallets back in the pocket.
Keep it in easy reach, and have a good trip.
