being the mom of 7 .. i truly believe that genetics play into these things but also how they are raised .. enviroment plays a big part also.. we have to teach right from wrong and not ALLOW behaviour that is unbecoming ... children mirror us .. so set the example... be consistant .. follow through.. all of these things play into behaviour of children.. mine are all grown .. it is a big test of wills believe me. they are all great kids..

Genetics play a small part. Genetics play apart in the beginning of a child's personality. For example: How a child/baby copes in a situation is his/her personality - they could be more laid back or they could be more sensitive.
How parents react toward the child's personality are external factors that help to further shape the child's personality. For example: If the child is sensitive the parent needs to take that into consideration with their approach, and a more laid back baby is easier to deal with but also the parents approach to them plays a part in further developing these traits as well.
Parents and other people involved with the child on a constant basis, and their actions have to correlate with the child's needs of their individual personality. For example: A sensitive child cries when they are startled by something, the parent might get mad or frustrated because of the crying which will directly affect the shaping of this child's personality for better or for worse OR the parent might be sensitive to the child's needs (of that particular sensitive personality trait). These experiences shape the child's personality - especially within the first 6 years of their life. These are determining factors of what kind of person they will become. Outside factors play the largest role.

That is an age old question to which there is no real answer...most psychologists believe that we are a product of our environment though...genetically if they have psychological genes they would be the only other influence from the parents/kin.
It It is an uncontrollable experiment because even if the subjects are related no two people are exactly the same even identical twins will be different people...

Parents certainly play a large source in how their children learn to live, respect and love etc. But also the environment in which a child is raised is a large facto or their future behaviour. But ultimately it is the child themselves that decides what way of life they want to live. There are many children who were raised in substance abusive environments with both parents using/abusing and the neighbourhood that they were raised witnessing this and other violent acts and they turn out quite well adjusted. But others will follow they lead with which they have seen.

Enviroment. People do, act, perform what they need to in order to survive.
Either you fall into the pit, jump over it, or climb out.
