You always want to incorporate what you have, with new items. Basic black is a must, always purchase new blouses, scarfs, etc.. The simple rule of thumb is dress to impress, not to make a mess. So, therefore, buy a brown suite, black dress, and a must have white suite, one that can be used for winter purposes. Use make-up at a minimum, then walk with confidence.

A lot of that would depend on what looks best on you. One good rule of thumb is to have one "basic" neutral color for most items then build on that.

Do you have a lot of yellow in your skin? Stick with warm colors. Brown, tan, khaki are good neutrals. Orange, Red, yellow, green are warm colors that might look good on you.

Do you have a lot of pink in your skin? Stick with the cooler colors. Black, grey, white are good for the neutrals. Purple, pink, blue are good cool colors.

The best thing is to stick with classic pieces so they can be warn for years to come and you can continue to build a great wardrobe.

Can't go wrong with black. What is your "season?" What colors look best on you, i.e., pastels, neutrals, fall colors? Find out the colors that you look best in and then purchase your wardrobe based on that.
