a glitch in the matrix

Sorry, this isn't an answer, but I get a lot of deja vus, and in my deja vu when I realize I'm having one, I remember in my deja vu that feeling of just realizing it. It is weird. So I don't think it can be anything to do with past lives.

Deja vu, has nothing to do with the brain. It starts with the feeling. It is caused by reincarnation. You have done this in a past life.
I know I do past life readings all the time. You can always tell people's look on their face when I am telling them something from a past life and they get this look of how did you know that happened. Or that explains, what I have felt or seen.
Don't freak out about it. Honey, it is a gift to be able to do this and to remember it.
God Bless

Our brains are 'wired' to remember certain situations & once in a while there will be a little glitch so that even though you know that you've never done or seen what just happened, the feeling of deja vu will occur. Happens to all of us one time or another & is nothing to be concerned about.

"Deja vu" occurs when the brain and senses are not in synch. Your senses see, hear, smell, touch something and it registers in the brain but the response is so slow, by the time to recognize the sensation it seems as if it is coming around AGAIN.

It stops almost completely by age 40 to 45.

Sometimes its because your brain recognizes something that triggers a memory of a similar situation. Like maybe the chair in the corner looks like a chair you saw in a similar position once. Other times it is because your senses and your brain aren't quite working at the same speed.

Short answer is: No one knows. They are still trying to figure it out. There are all kinds of theories out there.

I also just had one. Googled it. And found the source below.

I think I helped them figure it out and am now waiting for their results.
