My home central air was perfect until my wife accidentally placed a box over the air return which restricted the air flow to the unit. That caused the evaporator or coil to freeze up along with the big copper freon line. Or I believe it's called the low pressure side.
It was frozen all the way to the condenser unit outside.
It was on after it froze for about 14 Hours before I realized that no cold air was coming out and the house was hot. So I removed the box, and turned it off for a whole day. After everything de-froze I turned it back on, and now there is a problem!!!
The line begins to freeze after an hour of it running. I'm sure no freeon leaked out, but can I have a damaged compressor? or do you think I may have to re-charge the unit? or maybe from the bad freeze, is there a posibility that the coil went bad? what should I do?

How do you know for sure it did not lose any freon? That's what I believe has happened. Most units only contain 4 to 5 lbs. of freon in them and you may be low. Just 1/2 to 1 lb. of lose is enough to cause the problems you speak of. Have it checked by a air conditioner repairman, and hope it is not something worse.

no no no, What has happend is this, When ur wife covered over the return air vent. The a/c is trying to suck air from where ever it can. It's possible that it has sucked trash and insulation onto the evaporator coil. But no problem, It can be cleaned. Email or IM for instructions to do it.. GL

You probably sprung a small leak in the line. Lack of freon causes frosting of the line. Have a heat & air man check the pressure.

have you checked the air filter? if the return was blocked, the unit does try to pull air from other places. if the ducts are dirty enough, this could have clogged the filter. this is about your only recourse from what you say. also check and make sure the blower motor is running and did not overheat or burn up from lack of airflow. if these do not fix, you will need to have the refrigerant level accurately checked.
