They are pretty much the same thing, as in they both play music, although IPods seems to offer more functionality than a standard MP3 player.

iPod is an actual name. It's owned by Apple and is the most common player by far.
MP3 player is the broader name for all portable music devices that play MP3s, regardless of brand.
