It's firewall, and web site, not sight! ;) Anyway, Microsoft Windows XP has a firewall built in. Search Microsoft.com for answers on configuring it. You can also search the web for 'Parental Blocking', 'Block Kids Computer sites' or something of the sort. Personally, I think it's better for them to find the information when they're safe at home, then out on the streets. I suppose it depends on how inappropriate the content is though. ;)

A firewall controls the programs that are an on you computer and programs that someone else may try to run from a different location. It's really hard to control everything the kids may see, I tried using the option that came with WinXP, But then the kids couldn't even go to most sites that were good, I think it even blocked ESPN. But get a firewall anyway, Good to stop hackers and HaCk WannaB's from trying to access your sons pc.

That's not what Firewalls Do!!! Firewalls keep evil doers from accessing YOUR computer!

What you want is Dan's Guardian, a web page content filter and domain blocker.

I run Dan's Guardian on a totally devoted machine, as it is quite resource intensive! I like a 466 to 800Mhz computer, with 128 Mb RAM, two ehternet cards, and a 10Gb hard drive. After initial setup, I pull out the monitor, keyboard, mouse.

Install http://ipcop.org followed by http://spamassassin.apache.org and finally followed by Dan's Guardian http://dansguardian.org

Firewalls stop others from hacking into your computer. If you want to protect your son, I suggest you download a porn blocker such as the free www.weblocker.com and if you don't like that one there are others out there you can pay for that will do it . Most porn blockers are better that parental settings offered by yahoo and others.

Certain firewalls CAN block sites based on URL and/or keywords, but they are not ideal for what you're trying to accomplish.

I recommend a good parental filter that is kept up to date automatically. Check out the reviews based on features and price (link below). I recommend CyberSitter - it works very well.

Buy it through your security center. Ex. if you are using McAfee, just sign up for the firewall protection program online. They'll ask for credit card info and download it to you. You can also buy programs for a similar price at stores and load them into your computer yourself.

Firewall does not do that.

A firewall protects you from attacks from someone else trying to get into your computer.

Windows Firewall does that fine.

Your ISP may have "Parental Controls" ATT Yahoo does.
