My son was born at 33 weeks. He was 4lbs when born. His big problem was that he had a hard time eating from a bottle. They kept him in the hospital for a week. He is now 10 years old and has had no major health problems.
Don't worry about your little girl I am sure you will do just fine. Even people that have babies that are full term are still nervous about bringing them home. Your maternal instinct will kick in when you are all settled at home and you will do just fine. Usually the nurses at in the maternal ward are there for you even when you go home if you have any questions at all.
Congratulations on your new daughter.

All three of my children were preemies. The oldest...11years old, the middle...4 years old, and last but not least...10 wks old. It is scary for any mother to have a baby this small and all of the possible complications. However, within a few sleepless months, you will see your baby develop very rapidly to catch up on growing. The scariest thing for me and my husband was taking them off of the monitors...at least all of the beeping let you know the baby was o.k. Just hang in there(with a very alert eye). And don't be afraid to bother your pediatrician several times a week even if it's for your sanity (we did and still do).
Good Luck

Well, congratulations!! Sounds like you already have a success story :-) I gave birth to our twin girls at 30 weeks due to complications from an undiagnosed case of TTTS (Twin-to-Twin Transfusion Syndrome). Simply put, they were sharing a placenta and, Anna was getting too much of the blood/nourishment and Josie was getting too little. Josie was 2 lbs. 12 oz. when she was born and Anna was 3 lbs. 15 oz. So, they weren't quite as early/small as your little girl, but they were pretty early/small :-p And, Anna especially had a really tough time at first. She actually scored a 0 on her initial APGAR test. But, they both fully recovered and are now just two happy, healthy 16-month olds :-) So, while it will be scary bringing her home, don't worry... it'll be a lot of work, but it will be more than worth it :-)

I just reported the person who posted your first answer.
Anyway, my girl was born at 35 wks and had to be in the NICU for five days....she was pretty jaundiced and her breathing wasn't regulated...but she rallied and was fine. The first few weeks at home were a little tough, b/c of several things, one being that I'm a first-time mom....also, b/c she was so little, nursing was hard for the both of us...and it took forever to get her to gain weight steadily....but she's 3 months old now and everything is going GREAT! She's gaining weight like a champ now, she nurses fine, etc. It just takes alot of hard work and perseverance. You'll be pretty sleep-deprived, like I was (and still am to some degree!), but that will sort itself out after awhile...you'll get into a routine and it will be as if you have always been this way. You won't be able to remember what life was like without her. :) Congratulations and I know you'll do a fine job. Just stick with it. It will be tough at first but the rewards are so awesome...God bless. :)

We had 2 premiees, 1 at 23 weeks (yes 23 weeks) is 6 now and doing fine, and one at 30 weeks now 2 1/2. We used to have them sleep by our bed cuz we would be so worried that they would stop breathing or something. Watch for RSV ( you need to get her shots every month, I hope you have good insurance :)) also, if you have a thearapist coming in (usually recomended in small premiees) only take the bad news with a grain of salt. Remember that all babys grow and develope differently and if yours is behind is some areas it may have nothing to do with her being small and they end up catching up. Enjoy the ride!

I had a son that was born early as well. But he was not born as early as your daughter was. But my son done wonderful. He is now 4 months old and is as big as a 8 month old baby. Your daughter will do fine. If you live in the colder climate then it would be best not to get her out very much, since she will be easier to get rsv. But be prepare they will lose a little weight at first. But other than that she will be fine! Good luck to you and your daughter.

my daughter was early, not as early as yours. the most important thing is to watch for rsv. it develops in premies instead of a cold its a bad infection that their weakend immune systems cant fend off. my daughter is now almost 6 and is perfectly healthy the biggest issue i had was finding clothes and diapers for her when i got her home since she was so small. i wish youall the luck

ignore the idiot...my little sister was a few months early...she was in the NICU for awhile, just because she was soooooooo tiny and needed help breathing on her own...the first time i held her, she fit in the palm of one hand...she is now six years old and healthy as a horse. i'm sure your daughter will be fine.
