My dial up service offers call waiting, when I have a incoming call it gives me the option to answer the phone or not and also displays the phone number of the person that is calling.

NANCY K : Do get your facts right.

Splitter only splits one phone line into two, physically, ( it is still a single number). If the person is online then he surely cannot make a phone call using the same line at the same time. He will have to get DSL, a Second line or get a " Switchboard ". This
' Swithboard ', is like Network Hub but it is only for phone line. It gives one, the option to split a single phone line into 3 to 4 connections. Thus one can hook up a Fax Machine, another phone, a modem line etc into one single line.

Even with ' Call Waiting ", a person is simply being put on Internet Standby while he replies / receives the call.

I don't know what a piggyback is, but you can choose one of the following:

A.) Buy a modem that has a feature that says something about staying online while you answer the phone (I've seen them online)

B.) Buy a new phone line

C.) Get dsl or cable. I'd get cable because when the phone rings the internet messes up on dsl.

You can. It is called a splitter. Go to WEB SEARCH and type in: "splitter for phone/compute." It will show you a page of places to check them out. Good luck.

Your dial-up modem uses the same frequency as what your phone does to place and receive calls. That being said I would think it's impossible.
