I think by segregating the show, they are hurting their own ratings in a declining "reality t.v. show" market. There are enough factors playing a role in people finding other things of interest to watch besides "reality television," so giving them a very good reason not to watch isn't all that smooth a move.

I think the only way it has "helped" the show is the media attention it is getting. I don't know if it will entice people to watch or not (clearly the only objective in segregating the groups). From what I have read and heard, most people are not very pleased about the idea. I personally think Survivor is interesting from a Sociology standpoint, so this may create a new dynamic to the show that previously was missing. If they keep the groups separated for a long time, then I think it will be more interesting, not meant in a racist way, but to see how each groups strongest members survive. What they each bring to the game and how they choose to play it. That is the interest to me. BTW, when does it start?

When I first heard about it, I had the same kneejerk reaction as (apparantly in the media) many others: "Oh No They Didn't"

But with the media outcry I think it will definitely help the show and bring in a lot of viewers who didn't watch before, wondering how this is going to play out. It should be of particular interest to the ethnic groups being represented, just in terms of commenting on this social experiment--for example, do people really expect ALL Latinos or ALL Asians to get along...regardless of the fact that they will probably be from different backgrounds or degrees of assimilation? Someone who's Korean-American could be more different from someone of Chinese descent than someone whose ancestors hailed from Central America. Likewise someone whose outward features "look" ethnic may actually identify more with someone from the Caucasian group...people may align more based on social/economic class than race. And won't that be interesting to watch, especially for viewers who are already Survivor fans?

And don't forget, this is still about an INDIVIDUAL win of 1 million dollars....that should be enough to make anyone colorblind except for, of course, GREEN.

Wow! Gurney should get best answer for this. I agree with him. I will watch it again but, if I don't like it then no more Survivor for me. It's the only reality show I watched and that will be the end of it. We need more good dramas like 'The Unit' and I love the HBO shows.

Love Survivor! I think it will help the show and get more viewers. I think it will be interesting to see which group has the hardest time and looses the most challenges.

I think it will be helpful to the show because it's only for the first little while. It is a bit risky though but i think because it's survivor then it will be okay.

It's obvious that they don't have more ratings left. Are we suppose to applaud them for being innovative? It's not innovative it's just dumb. Like a really bad joke. They obviously don't understand US relations- whoever mad this idea *cough* Mark Burnett *cough*. They've jumped the shark and I really hate this idea. I don't get what the point is...or I do but I don't get why they want to prove this particular point in the first place. There's NO PURPOSE!!

I think Survivor is a struggling show clawing for a decent idea and once again they have struck fools gold.

It is ridiculous to think they can play people from one race against the other. I picture yuppies from all races doing the show and other people laughing their asses off at them.
