Are you open to a really, really funny, high-quality spoof? If so, google Cassie Claire. I'm not THAT much of a Tolkienhead (though I think he was a great storyteller), and I'm not much into parody either, but these really are funny, clever, and oddly sweet at the same time. Cheers.

Read the books.
They are readily available at any library, sometimes in the general fiction/literature section, but sometimes in young adult.
They are also readily available at any book store since the movies came out, in the sci-fi section.

If you want to become obsessed watch all 3 movies & the behind scenes making of, that's what got my wife hooked. Frodo lives!
