more music is written from a guitar. a bas is more of a bottom end to the arrangement of the song. helps to keep the changes in the arrangement flowing. i play both. but i find bass easier... it all depends on you.

Bass is part of the rhythm and beat section,
so you can say its like playing drums and rhythm guitar in one.
bass also comes in 4,5,6,8,12 strings
but starting out on bass I'd start with a 4 string

Defiantly recommend bass

Bass has four thick strings; guitar has 6 not-so-thick ones.

A bass can sound like everyone from PiL's Jah Wobble to RHCP's Flea to New Order's Peter Hook. A guitar? Pretty much any rock and/or roll band will have a guitar in there, so explaining signature sounds would be an exercise in redundancy.

The bass is the foundation of virtually all modern songs, but guitarrist gets all the poonany.
