You are going to need to call imaging facilities in your area to check costs, as they will greatly vary even within the same town. The cost is going to depend on what body part is scanned (Sinus scan is much cheaper than a complete head CT), and if you need a contrast enhanced exam (contrast will add to the price). I work in an outpatient imaging facility and our town's hospital is quite a bit more expensive than us. When you call around, make sure you are getting the radiologist fee plus the technical fee. My facility has only one fee, but the hospitals typically have both. If you are private pay/non-insured, find out if the facility will give you a discount for paying cash at time of service. My facility will give a 40% discount at time of service for full payment of CT scans.

Be sure to let the imaging center know you are self pay and request their best cash price, in advance. You could offer to pay the medicare price and see what they say, some outpatient centers will accept this. Without asking the facility you will not know. It also depends on the type of exam, head and neck or just neck, with contrast or without. Your doctor should be the one to make that decision. Once you have prescription then call the center and get prices, if they are too much, ask the doctors office for alternative locations or facilities. Good luck and Good health.
